A Day in my Life on the DCP

On my DCP I worked at Sleepy Hollow- a quick service location in Magic Kingdom. We specialized in sweet and savory waffles (my mouth still waters when I think of our spicy chicken waffle sandwiches!), corndogs, and house made chips.

Sleepy Hollow is open for the whole duration of park hours (often 9am to midnight) which made our shifts look very interesting. I rarely worked the same shift two days in a row so this "Day in the Life" is just a glimpse of what my shift "could" be. Especially towards the end of my program, my shifts began getting longer and longer till I was working 10+ hours every day. But at the beginning, this is what an average day would look like!

Please enjoy!

8:00 am- Wake up, Make Bed, Breakfast, Scripture Study

8:45 am- Get Ready for day, Organize and Clean Room / Apartment

9:15 am- Catch up on emails, Work on my Online Class, etc.

10:00 am- Fun Time!

My most common things to do during my free time were:

  • Park Day

  • Brunch with Friends

  • Work Out / Swimming

  • Grocery Shopping or Cast Connections Run

  • Explore Orlando (Beach, Winter Garden, Universal, etc.)

  • Explore a Resort (including activities like mini golfing, horse riding, etc.)

2:15 pm- Return to Apartment, Put on Costume, Make Sack Dinner

2:45 pm- Get on Bus

3:45 pm- Shift Starts

During my shift I would work a myriad of different positions. I could be placed on cash register, waffle maker, mobile order assistant, drink maker, food fryer, food / area stocker, or greeter. In a long shift (8-12 hours) I would be moved around up to 6 times. In a shorter shift (6 hours) it’s usually closer to 2-3 times.

10:00 pm (Or whenever we finish closing)- Shift Ends. Get on Bus (or snag a ride home with friends!)

When "closing", it isn’t uncommon to be extended an hour or more after your scheduled out time, as you can only leave when your whole area is clean

11:00 pm- Arrive home at apartment, Snack, Shower, Laundry (Clean that Costume!)

11:30 pm- Journal Writing, Call Family/ Friends (who are 2-3 hours behind!!!)

12:00 am- BEDTIME (*Finally*)

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into a "day in my life" on the DCP. Feel free, like always, to reach out via my insta @goldenbrowniebeth if you have any questions!
